3-D TV is a type of television that displays a three-dimensional picture to viewers. It uses depth perception (three-dimensional) techniques to display data and visuals on a television screen.

A 3-D TV primarily creates a three-dimensional effect that gives the image depth, width and height. It creates a stereoscopic view for the human eye to create a three-dimensional view. A 3-D TV generally requires the content to be also in a 3-D format, such as 3-D movies.
A 3-D TV can be viewed with and without supporting lenses, depending on the device. Some common 3-D technologies with lenses include the polarized 3-D system, active shutter 3-D system and head-mounted display. Similarly, autostereoscopic or auto 3-D technology is used for viewing without lenses.
